I love the wide expanse of fields. There's something very cinematic about wide open spaces. This painting was initially inspired by a photo I took in Salzburg, Austria, on a Sound of Music bike tour. The tour had started out in the pouring rain, but then it cleared up and we biked out of the center of town into the countryside, past these gorgeous Austrian fields, that reminded me so much of the Pacific Northwest where I live. Fields are ordinary and ubiquitous. Many of us drive by them everyday, even in the suburbs, without even noticing them perhaps. But there is extraordinary beauty there too. In this painting, I wanted to focus on that feeling of being in a wide open space where our mind begins to clear.
